Phu Quoc: Luxury Vacations at JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort
Phu Quoc has become one of the most popular tourist destinations. First of all, tourists are attracted by the most beautiful and clean white beaches, picturesque nature and local cuisine, full of fresh seafood. From entertainment - diving, snorkeling, pearl farms and pepper plantations, the only safari park in Vietnam, ancient pagodas, cable car and national park. Although Vietnam from year to year is included in various ratings of the most accessible resorts, the luxury tourism industry is well developed in Phu Quo?.
The story “from winter to summer” is presented in Phu Quo? as vividly as possible: here are the most beautiful palm trees, the most turquoise sea and the whitest beaches in all of Vietnam. And although the landscape itself is able to relieve the townspeople from the accumulated stress, the spectacular picture is not all. The main advantage of the island is the respectful distance that it preserves with modern civilization.
70% of Phu Quo? is still covered with jungle. Like a hundred years ago, coconut and black pepper are grown here. Like a hundred years ago, the sea generously shares its gifts with people. The international airport appeared only in 2012. And although today its name is already known, Phu Quoc still does not look like the crowded "bounty" of neighboring Thailand. In general, it is not surprising that this location was chosen by Bill Bensley for his new project. The famous king of hotel design in the luxury segment created the first international luxury hotel here.
JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa is perhaps one of the most beautiful and unusual hotels in the world. American architect Bill Bensley, created the hotel in the style of a French university in the beginning of the 20th century.
Phu Quoc is called the new discoverer of Asia: his portfolio includes projects of boutique hotels, eco-camps and spa complexes in Thailand, Sri Lanka, Japan, Myanmar and Bali - a total of more than 200 buildings. Each architectural task realized by him is a piece masterpiece, behind which there is a great philosophy, and sometimes a complicated intrigue. What did he conceive in Fukuoka?
The JW Marriott project Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort and Spa, the architect led together with the Marriott, and his main task was to get away from the stamps. As a basis, Bensley took the colonial past of Vietnam and gave vent to fantasy.
According to legend, the Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald was built in the abandoned buildings of the University of Lamarck, the cradle of a colonial education in Vietnam, so named after the French biologist Jean-Baptiste Lamarck.
In fact, the Emerald Bay Resort and Spa is a restored campus. At the end of the 19th century, Europeans built it “for their own” and named Lamarck, in honor of French naturalist Jean-Baptiste Lamarck. In the XX century, the campus was destroyed, and in the XXI century - restored, but as a resort. Guests live as in Hogwarts. Here are the bright streets, strong European architecture, here are the buildings of faculties, here are the signs "Astronomy", "Astrology", "Botany". Test tubes, globes, racks with folios, board of honor. Inscriptions in Latin. Darwin's bust. Colonial French coffee house.
In the new part of the campus - suites and villas. Sly design allowed us to make each bedroom a secluded one: you can live in a three-story building and be sure that you only have the sea and the beach, and the jungle around. Hundreds of invisible employees are constantly working on this confidence of yours every minute.
It wants to go out to the people - these are the public spaces on the main street. Cocktail bar in the building of the former Faculty of Chemistry. Spa center with asymmetrical corridors and images of mushrooms on the ceiling. Hint that the path to yourself begins with a revision of the usual ideas about reality?
On the site of the department of architecture is a restaurant. At the place of the former audience - the ballroom. Then another room - for events (in the staff room). Chairs in it do not stand on the floor, but grow out of the walls. Here you are suspicious of the first suspicions: if these are the scenery, then who is the director and what is your role? This was the main idea of ??Bill Bensley: being a direct participant in the performance, you do not have to understand who is here juggling worlds. All this he invented. There was no university in Fukuoka. In the middle of the jungle, the great mystifier launched his own reality show on the theme of Vietnamese history - and made everyone believe in their fantasy.
For the Emerald Bay, the team of Bensley has been collecting all over Europe for five years. Throughout the globe, over 5,000 antiques, antique kitchen utensils, vintage sports equipment, copper distillers and dusty archives were brought to the Gulf of Thailand. But while you are here, no one will tell you about it - these are the rules of the game. Paradise Island, not yet fully captured by mass tourism, was the best possible site for such a game. The rest was a trick.
