Who inspired Angelina Jolie to fly?

Angelina Jolie, 42, is no doubt at the peak of her career. But at the same time, she is still striving for a literally new height. She already impersonated some power women in front of the camera. While many actors prefer stunts on set, Jolie keeps on being a superwoman in her real life. In the cockpit of a single-engine aircraft, the star feels as confident as on the red carpet.

Didn’t you know? The Hollywood beauty has had her flying license since 2004. Recently, she demonstrated her skill on TV. In a new ITV special The Queen’s Green Planet, which airs on ITV in Britain, the actress is seen expertly piloting and landing a small plane over the Namibian desert.

In December 2004 she passed the test and shortly afterward acquired her first own aircraft - a single-engine aircraft. The Cirrus SR22-G2 cost around 334,700 US dollars. Costs have certainly paid off.

In contrast to the typical celebrity stories, Jolie did it not just for fun, and she didn't mean to impress the public or paparazzi. The real reason is much cuter. Because her eldest son, Maddox, is a big fan of airplanes, the actress dared to take flying lessons in 2004. The flight number contains the letter combination 'MX' in Maddox's honor.

Not only Maddox has been impressed by his mother, she herself is also said to have become very fond of flying. And Cirrus SR22 is an excellent option to enjoy the piloting. It is a modern four-seater, single-engine light aircraft from the US aircraft manufacturer Cirrus Design Corporation. The model is offered since February 2001. The aircraft is mainly made of fiberglass composites. Cirrus SR22 is also one of the world's fastest single-engine aircrafts. It can travel up to 300 miles per hour.

The SR22 series has been the world's best-selling general aviation (GA) airplane every year since 2003. Small wonder, because the aircraft features one truly unique option. You can buy it even if you are a martyr to an aviophobia. The Cirrus SR22 is equipped with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS), which can lower the entire aircraft to the ground relatively gently in an emergency.

This is probably one of the safest aircrafts. By the end of 2013, the accident rate had been reduced to a fatality rate of 1.01 per 100,000 flight hours. The aircraft is very popular among flying schools, air charter and small air taxi carriers. Even the French Air Force uses six SR22s as training aircraft. So you can rely on Jolie’s choice as she is a mother of a large family. It is not surprising that the issue of safety is one of the most important when choosing an aircraft.

In September 2017 Angie revealed that her son had grown older but his hobbies had not changed. At the age of 16 he also began to try himself in the cockpit. According to his proud mum, the attempt was quite successful. How could it be a fail with such a coach!

Maybe Maddox can snag the crown and become the next youngest pilot to fly solo around the world. Though the competition is high! In 2013, Ryan Campbell used an SR22 to become the record-holder at age nineteen. He could hold his title only for a year. Jolie’s youngest son Knox is getting flying lessons too. He wants to gain his pilot's license at the age of nine.

Angelina Jolie was often spotted on the airfield. Her then-husband Brad Pitt has even joined her in taking lessons. She often traveled with her children, preferring her single-engine aircraft to business jets. When the former couple visited Vienna in 2006, the then highly pregnant actress and her former husband, accompanied by a flight instructor, also arrived on a tiny single-engine plane.

Reportedly, she was once banned from flying in 2013 after she failed to renew aircraft’s registration in time. But judging by how happy she seemed to be when piloting an airplane in Namibia, the actress spreads her wings again.

Angelina Jolie is an American actress, filmmaker, and humanitarian. Jolie's starring role as the video game heroine Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) established her as a leading Hollywood actress. She also starred in many critically acclaimed films such as Girl, Interrupted (1999).

This role brought her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Jolie is currently experiencing not the best period in her personal life. Two years have passed since Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt ended the relationship. And still, the former dream couple has not divorced. The only reason for this is the lack of agreement in the custody dispute.
