Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, known as Davido, has reportedly bought a private jet. The 25-year-old singer announced it on his Twitter by posting documents, which prove that he indeed owns it. The musician also revealed in his post that the private aircraft is expected in the country in two weeks’ time.

Davido, one of the richest men in Nigeria just bought his girlfriend, Chioma Avril, 23, a N45m Porsche as a surprise birthday gift, and now he extends his ‘rich man package’ to a private jet, a part and parcel of the luxury lifestyle.

Attentive fans, who watched videos on Davido’s social media, captured from the receipt that he acquired a Challenger 605.

A brand new Bombardier Challenger 605 sells for approximately N9.7billion ($27m). Though given that the 605 was introduced in 2006 as an upgrade to the Challenger 604, it might be possible that David purchased a used jet, which still costs a jaw-dropping N5.4Billion ($15m).

The Challenger 605 is part of a family of the midsized private jets, produced by Bombardier Aerospace. The aircraft can accommodate 10-12 passengers in a standard configuration. The corporate clients which are usually frequently flying businessmen, superstars or policymakers, especially appreciate the comfort, so the Bombardier was particularly focused on the cabin’s improvements. It has an improved Ethernet-based management system, larger video monitors, an upgraded galley area, sturdier worktables and more LED lighting.

Bombardier’s Challenger series, perhaps its most successful line, is highly appreciated among corporate and government leaders. The impressive business jet offers the widest cabin in its category. Its predecessor, the Challenger 604, is dubbed “best-selling model in the heavy-iron category.” However, the Challenger 605 is poised to overtake its ‘older brother’.

With a maximum range of 7,400 km the jet is very flexible and allows you to fly over the most popular routes.

So you can reach New York from London while starting from the Middle East, the most important business destinations in the Eastern hemisphere are available for you, including London, Hong Kong and Beijing, as well as the biggest part of Africa.

So now, with a private jet, Davido will probably never miss a flight to London again. In May 2014, Davido made headlines and faced backlash as he attacked the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) after missing his flight to London.

The aircraft has two General Electric CF34-3B engines, producing 8,729 lbs of thrust apiece. Thanks to design modifications, newly located fuel tanks, one aft bladder tank and an enlarged  tailcone tank, provide better weight distribution and fuel economy.  Cabin measurements are 6.1 feet tall, over 7 feet wide and 28.3 feet long. In the night configuration, it has 5 sleeping positions. The maximum baggage capacity is 408 kg. The aircraft can achieve a high speed of 870 km/h. In comparison with the 604, it also boasts a rounder tailcone, and larger cabin windows.

Among other famous owners of the 605 is Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton. However, one of the highest-paid athletes could afford it only at age 28. The F1 champion purchased the flamboyant red and black colored aircraft in 2013. He also personalized his jet - it carries a G-LCDH registration number representing Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton, while the first letter is a specific country code, in this case, G stands for the United Kingdom.

The customized registration is the ultimate status symbol, so we presume Davido will be also unable to resist the aircraft’s vanity tail number.

If Davido prefers to register his jet in the USA, the country where he was born, and not in one of the most popular offshore jurisdictions, his number will start with ’N’ probably followed by ‘DAA’, which represents his full real name David Adedeji Adeleke, or ‘DMW’, which is the name of his own music label, Davido Music Worldwide.

However, registration of a private jet in Nigeria doesn't seem a lucrative deal. According to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) there are 146 corporate jets in the country of which only 46 were registered in Nigeria while 100 has foreign registration. Will there be a 47th registered aircraft soon? It’s up to Davido.

He is probably the youngest Nigerian who owns a private jet, but he is definitely not the only one among his compatriots.

As of 2015, there’re 21 Nigerians who own a private jet, including politicians, pastors and businessmen. Some of them own a number of different jets. So, Orji Uzor Kalu, politician and business mogul, has acquired no less than 5 private jets. His fleet includes Gulfstream G650, which he reportedly bought for $72 million (N11.5 billion), and Bombardier’s Global Express XRS.

Davido does great in life, and though almost everything he has gained is a result of hard work he has been showing during the past years as he contributed to the development of the Nigerian musical industry, the singer can't complain about humble beginnings.

His father is a billionaire and Nigerian business magnate while his late mother was a university lecturer.

Davido launched his debut album in 2012, and his musical career went into overdrive. His most popular video on YouTube, the Fall, has 64 million views, while more than 600 000 users subscribed to his channel for updates. The singer is a brand ambassador to Pepsi, Axe and First Bank of Nigeria.  In 2017, Davido created history by winning the MOBO awards for Best African Act in the United States of America.
